Production: I'm Walking on Sunshine

 By Emma T

Hello there!

We were able to complete all of our filming!  Firstly, the weather worked out perfectly

as it was sunny and not too hot. As there was only one actor, which was played by the sister of

a group member, we all acted as directors and filmers. Sara S had a Dunkin’ Donuts near her

house, so she provided the doughnuts. However, once the filming started so did the unavoidable

issues. We began with the beach scene as that is where we met up. Firstly, the sand was

uneven which made it difficult to film on the beach. Instead, we moved to the sidewalk and

included both the beach and palm trees in the background on a small green space. Next, we

realized it was quite awkward to film an extreme close-up of the actor’s face, so it instead

became a long shot. Next, we walked to a group member’s house as they lived nearby the

beach. They owned a white screen that we used as a background for the rest of the filming.

From there, we filmed the first three scenes, the actor looking bored, the doughnut box, and

finally, the actor eating the doughnut. The first scene of the actor looking bored was simple and

easy to film with few issues which we did as a medium shot from eye level. However, the scene

of the person reaching for the doughnut was rather awkward unless we made it a tracking shot

from a high angle, so we switched to that instead and filmed straight through to the actor eating

the doughnut. Afterward, we made sure to film some extra shots just in case, but we are not

positive whether we are going to include them in the editing later on. We did a tilt of the actor

eating the doughnut and a POV shot of the doughnut moving toward the mouth. The entire

process took a little over an hour to complete. I had time-commitment issues, so we were limited

on time, but we managed to not rush completely. After, I realized I have some things I could work

on myself as a director and filmer. For one, I need a little more focus as I was a little too much

“everything goes”. This led to my other group members having the pressure of constantly

checking the rubric. Overall, I think everything went well, and we even got to enjoy some

doughnuts after!
