Production Blog: Reviews
Hello again!
Today, I asked my friends and family to review the rough draft of our project! They all had helpful edits on what should and should not be changed, including my parents (who watched together), my brother, and my friend Christina! I picked these people for very specific reasons. Firstly, they offer a wide range of perspectives from age groups to interests!
My parents introduced a slightly older audience which I thought would be radically different than the advice of my own age group, as presented below, but was surprisingly not. My mom's advice was more technical, believing that the areas for most improvement were the lighting changes and music which was definitely helpful! My dad had similar ideas but elaborated that some of the scenes were mismatched which created an odd combination. Both agreed that it had a good concept, but felt the film itself could be improved. Afterward, they were appreciative that Sara's parents were willing to do the acting because they would not have been willing to film the abuse scene.
My brother is a computer science major with a background in film-making which gives him an interesting opinion on the technicalities of the movie such as lighting and angles. Of all, he had the most advice. He touched on the same points as my parents, specifically that some of the scenes were oversaturated compared to others. He also mentioned that it lacked some of the essential horror elements such as tilted screens which was a good point. However, Sara is definitely the chief editor so in truth, I plan on relaying these opinions to her and seeing what she thinks is best!
Christina is someone who is strongly in tune with popular trends as well as a horror film fanatic. This allows for the marketed audience to review the movie and offer their perspectives. To elaborate on her specific advice, she said that the intro should have been more graphic to truly entrance a horror audience, but I felt that was more a matter of opinion and further was not something to adjust as to ask the actors to do more is a lot. This is especially true considering it's Sara's parents. Therefore, while I definitely considered her advice, I do not think I will be adding these changes!
Taking this into consideration, I will definitely be conferring with Sara to see what her reviewers thought and deciding on edits from there!
Thank you!
