Production: And the Commercial of the Year Goes to...
Hello there!
In the past two blogs, my group and I completed both the filming and editing, the most essential steps of production. For the third blog, I decided I wanted to cover one more step, reviews. I interviewed families and friends, asking for their opinions on my group’s commercial to see if there were any last steps of improvement or new ideas they could introduce.
My first showing was my parents as they were easily accessible. They both loved the music, especially the Pina Colada song included. They definitely agreed it gave an exciting element to the commercial. The outfit was something they noted as well as the one pink doughnut which really differentiated the before and after. However, they did say it looked like a student made it, which in my evaluation means that it lacked the extra concision and distinction of a professional commercial. As this is my first project, I decided there was not much I could do to fix that and would instead consider that for my next project.
The next person I showed was my friend and fellow classmate as they greatly understand the parameters of the project and could evaluate based on the examples we were given. They did not give as thorough feedback, but said they believed it be good. Their feedback is often very honest, sometimes brutally so, which gives me the impression the commercial is at a good place.
The third person I showed was my older brother. As only a sibling can, he gave a lot of criticism. However, he is at university majoring in computer science and took TV Production multiple years in high school, so most of it was constructive and gave me some insight on how to improve. He immediately noted some audio awkwardness which we were already aware of. He pointed out some others spot as well. This included an awkward order of events. He thought we should restructure it, so our beach scene was last, however my group mates wanted to keep it the way it was, so we agreed not to change that.
While I did show it to another friend or two, they gave a customary “it’s good” and not much more feedback which is why I will not go into detail as to what they said. I am glad I did these reviews because it gave me insight, not only in how to improve the commercial, but how to improve my production skills in general.
Until next time!
