Production Blog: The Cupcake Extravaganza
Hello again!
Today was the first day of filming! We had made the decision to focus on the cupcake-baking sequence while postponing the icing. There were many reasons we opted not to film the icing sequence, but the main ones were that we needed more time and resources to do it. We were aware that baking the cupcakes from scratch might take some time. We had to make sure we worked in smaller sections so we wouldn't become bored or fatigued in order to make this experience more enjoyable for us. We simply couldn't because of our schedule constraints. Sara had to go back the next day since there was no frosting left when she went to Publix to pick it up.
Today we filmed the scenes of both making the batter and baking it. We still hadn't decided how we would show the progression of time while the cupcakes are baking. We have a few ideas which had left undecided. The first idea is to show a time quickly moving, when it goes off we show the wife pulling out the cupcakes. The second idea is to have a timelapse of the cupcakes baking, when they are done, we would show the wife pulling them out. The third and final idea is to show the wife placing the cupcakes into the oven, and show her working on the icing while she waits and when she finishes she pulls the cupcakes out of the oven.
Today, we filmed the moments of the batter preparation and baking. While the cupcakes are baking, we are still debating how to depict the passage of time. We have a handful of concepts that are still up for debate. The first concept is to depict a ticking clock; when it sounds, we show the wife removing the cupcakes. The second concept is to show the wife removing the cupcakes from the oven as they bake in a time-lapse. The third and final suggestion is to show the wife putting the cupcakes in the oven, showing her frosting them while she waits, and then showing her taking them out when she's done. All in all, we decided to go with the third option as it was the most achievable for us with the time and resources we have.
But nevertheless, there weren't many complications while filming. The fact that we had all the equipment on hand made the filming procedure a breeze. However, because we had to adjust the camera angle for each step in accordance with the storyboard, the filming process started to become monotonous with each step. Overall, Sara and I had a great time filming, and I can't wait to do it again!
Thank you and see you next time!
