Re-editing Blog: The Devil in the Details
Welcome back!
Yesterday, Sara re-edited the scene from before and we just reviewed it! The thing I was most uncertain about was removing the curtain scene, as Sara's father suggested. In editing, she removed the scene and played it back to me, and honestly, it looked a lot better aesthetically! Including the curtain, the scene caused a bit of confusion and removed some of the apprehension built up in the opening. Eventually, we determined extracting it would be best.
Next, Sara wanted to change the transitions between each clip. Although this was not discussed or suggested prior, it was something we agreed could be improved when scrutinizing the videos repeatedly. As she explained, it would take a good few seconds to pull out the ingredients for the next step. So, although she didn't move anything in the frame, the reflection would change on the glass bowls. This did not bother me personally, and if I had been in charge of editing, I most likely would have not changed this. However, the later smoother transitions introduced did look better.
Sara also had to edit the coloring of each clip as both of our relatives had noticed some looked off. Apparently, this was very easy which was good. Again, I did not have a lot of involvement in this process. Personally, I feel I could be more involved in this editing, but I understand this is more of Sara's expertise.
The final thing she edited was the music. She chose an upbeat classical song which I felt turned out to look like murder ballads which were awesome. Originally, I had suggested this but I do feel we did have to look more into the classical genre given it is so much more expansive.
As quickly as the project had gone, it has come to an end! Sara has some final tweaks for things we didn't like, however, the following blog will be the final one! I can't wait for you to see it!
Have a great day!
Welcome back!
Today I worked on adding the edits discussed in the last blog! One big one which I was concerned about was removing the curtain scene. In editing, I removed the scene and played it back for him, and honestly, it looked so much better! Adding the curtain scene added a bit of confusion and removed some of the suspense built up in the beginning. Ultimately, we decided removing it would be best.
Next, I changed the transitions between each clip. Although this hadn't been discussed previously, it was something I realized when watching the videos repeatedly. When I was filming, I would take a good few seconds to pull out the ingredients for the next step. So, although I didn't move anything in the frame, the reflection would change on the glass bowls, which really began to bother me. I attempted many forms of transitions, however, many of them just didn't fit the tone. However, I settled on adding a quick cross-dissolve between each clip. This ensured a smoother transition for the audience.
I also had to edit the coloring of each clip as my father had noticed some looked off. This was an easy fix as my editing software allows for basic edits to each clip so I don't have to reupload them to my computer.
The final thing I edited was the music. I had to really search to find the right music to encapsulate the tone. When researching, I realized that upbeat classical music would work best if it had a darker twist towards the end. I ultimately found the perfect one to encapsulate how it feels, and I can't wait for you to see it!
