Planning Our Commercial!

By Emma T, Kaylie E, Sara S, and Sarah R

Hello!

There is a lot that goes into planning a commercial. We need to consider setting, costumes, props, etc as well as backup plans if something goes wrong.

Props:

As our group is doing a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, some of the props are pretty obvious. We wanted to keep things as simple and economical as possible.

  • We will use a box of Dunkin’ Donuts to show Dunkin’ main product, doughnuts.

Costumes:

Dunkin’ does not have any specific clothes to use, but we agreed it was better to keep it simple. The actor will begin wearing a white t-shirt and plain jeans. To create excitement, the actor will switch to a colorful shirt and more exciting jeans (maybe with rips or a pattern). This will strengthen the feeling of excitement with the changed setting.

Schedule:

9/22: Our group worked together to research conventional Dunkin’ commercials

9/27: We all discussed ideas and created a plan for the backbone of our commercial

10/01: We created a detailed plan for how to film scenes using storyboards

10/05: Our group will meet to film the scene

10/08: Should the filming not finish, the group will meet to wrap up filming.

10/09: Our group with edit the finished filming

Locations:

  • Our first location will be someplace very bland, a white wall at a group member’s house. This will create a scene of unremarkable life outside the doughnuts. It will end with a transition of someone biting into a doughnut.

  • Our second scene will be on the beach. We chose Pompano Beach because it is accessible and fits the scenery we are looking for. It has a vacation-like feeling that will bring an energetic feeling. At this location, we show the person holding the doughnut and enjoying life.

Backup Plan:

The beach is the optimal location to film, so we would likely change the dates or times of filming rather than the place if the weather is uncooperating. If it is raining on the backup day of filming 10/08, we would discuss another day. The filming indoors would still happen on 10/05, but if something were to happen to that, we would switch houses. We set up our actors to be interchangeable with
our filmers, so if we are short a person or two, the scene can still be filmed.

Signing off!
